VICTORY! Bill Supporting Patients Seeking to Pursue Reality of Their Sex Signed Into Law by Governor Abbott

Austin, TX – June 22, 2025: Today, Governor Abbott signed SB 1257 by Senator Bryan Hughes and Representative Jeff Leach to protect patient rights and ensure that detransitioners seeking insurance coverage for medical interventions, reconstructive procedures, and other treatments that align with their biological sex, have access to the healthcare they need.

“We applaud Governor Abbott for ensuring that Texans who seek coverage to address the consequences of harmful gender mutilation procedures do not have to worry about exorbitant out of pocket costs when returning to the reality of their sex. SB 1257 is a crucial step in protecting the rights and well-being of detransitioners and in fighting back against the radical LGBT agenda.”

Texas Values policy team members testified in the Texas House and Senate hearings earlier this year on SB 1257 and were a leading voice advocating for the passage of SB 1257. Texas Values also lead the fight during the 2023 Texas legislative session to pass SB 14, the law to protect minors from harmful gender mutilation surgeries and treatments.
