Breaking! Texas House Passes Texas Women’s Privacy Act 86-43

Austin, TX – August 28, 2025: Today, the Texas House of Representatives passed the Texas Women’s Privacy Act 86-43, making it clear in law that women and girls are protected in their sex separated spaces like showers, locker rooms, domestic violence shelters, and prisons.
The bill is one step closer to becoming law in Texas. Governor Abbott made protecting women in their private spaces a priority for both the first and second special sessions and has continued to show public support for the bill.
Mary Elizabeth Castle, Director of Government Relations for Texas Values said:
“Today Texas made a historic move in making sure that no woman or little girl has to look over her shoulder with fear when she is in the locker room, restroom, or shower because a man has been allowed to wrongfully enter that space. I thank Governor Abbott and other state leaders for being strong in passing the Texas Women’s Privacy Act before the calendar year is over. Our Texas legislature has made the message loud and clear: You don’t mess with Texas women and their dignity”.
Riley Gaines, NCAA athlete, Save Women’s Sports Leader, Ambassador of IWF said:
“Every woman deserves privacy, safety and dignity in spaces designed for them. Protecting these rights isn’t about politics. It’s about respecting women and ensuring their voices and concerns are taken seriously . Today’s vote makes Texas one step closer to being the bastion of common sense the rest of the nation expects it to be.”
Texas first made an attempt to pass the Privacy Act in 2017. Since then, Texas Values has made it a top priority to pass legislation to protect women and girls in their private spaces. Texas Values sent a letter to Governor Abbott requesting that The Texas Women’s Privacy Act be placed on the Special Session Call. At the beginning of the Second Special Session, House Speaker Dustin Burrows stated that passing legislation to protect women in their private spaces would be a priority.
