Breaking! Man Approaches Young Female Staff in Women’s Restroom at Texas Capitol

Austin, TX – February 25, 2025: Last week, it was revealed that a young woman who works for a Texas state representative has come forward about being approached by a man in the women’s restroom at the Texas Capitol. The young woman recalls preparing herself to exit the restroom and hearing a male voice compliment on her hair. The young female staffer reported the incident to her boss and the state representative she works for. The state representative sought answers on a policy to protect his female staffer, from both the House Administration Committee and the State Preservation Board, whom he was told has jurisdiction over restrooms in the Capitol. The state representative has yet to receive a response on a policy that keeps men in men’s restrooms and women and women’s restrooms.
Mary Elizabeth Castle, Director of Government Relations said:
“For years they did not believe us, but it is happening right under the pink dome: men are entering women’s restrooms even at the Texas Capitol and putting women in uncomfortable and dangerous positions. If men are allowed to enter women’s restrooms at the Capitol, then they are for certain entering women’s locker rooms and restrooms in gyms and especially in our public schools! Women should feel safe going to the restroom at our Capitol whether they work there or are simply visiting. We must protect women’s spaces.”
Legislation has been filed this session to address keeping women’s spaces safe.
Texas House member Valoree Swanson(HB 239) and Texas Senator Mayes Middleton (SB 240) have both filed bills that would make sure that women’s locker rooms, shelters, bathrooms, and other sex separated spaces are safe and private for women. These bills are known as the Texas Women’s Privacy Act. Additionally, Texas House of Representatives member Ellen Troxclair has filed the “What is a Woman?” bill that would clearly define “male” and “female” in law, leaving no room for a male to claim they are a woman and gaining access to female sports, restrooms, locker rooms etc. You can learn more about HB 229, the What is a Woman Bill here.
