Breaking! Legislation Protecting Privacy of Women and Girls Receives Overwhelming Support in Texas House

Austin, TX – July 31, 2025: Today, Representative Valoree Swanson, announced that the Texas Women’s Privacy Act (HB 32) has strong support from Texas House members, with more than 80 co-authors who have signed their name in support of the bill. Representative Swanson’s bill on protecting women’s privacy in the Regular Session, House Bill 239, also received strong support with over 80 members signing on as co-authors. Having this many Texas House members support the bill indicates that the Texas House has enough votes to pass the bill. Governor Abbott placed “protecting women in their privates spaces” on the Special Session call before the Special Session began. During the first week of the Special Session, Lt. Governor Dan Patrick prioritized protecting women’s privacy and assigned it as Senate Bill 7 in his list of top issues to pass in the Special Session.
Mary Elizabeth Castle, Director of Government Relations for Texas Values, said:
“The Texas House, just like the people of Texas, again show overwhelming support for a Texas law that will protect the dignity and safety of women in their sex-separated spaces. Governor Abbott has put this issue on the call for the Special Session because our state must act now to protect women’s privacy. I look forward to the Texas House to continue to lead on this issue.”
The Texas Women’s Privacy Act ensures that women are safe in locker rooms, showers, dressing rooms, restrooms, and domestic abuse shelters.
Senator Mayes Middleton and Senator Lois Kolkhorst are authors of the identical version of the Texas Women’s Privacy Act (SB 7) in the Texas Senate.
