Bipartisan Texas Senate Passes Privacy Act
This evening the full Texas Senate passed the Texas Privacy Act (SB 3) by Senator Lois Kolkhorst, by a bipartisan vote, 21-10. Democrat Senator Eddie Lucio supported SB 3 along with all the Republicans. SB 3 protects privacy in showers, bathrooms, and locker rooms in public schools and government buildings.

Texas Values Policy Analyst Nicole Hudgens released the following statement:
“Senator Kolkhorst said it best: ‘daughters over dollars.’ Thanks to the hard work of Senator Kolkhorst and a bipartisan group of Senators, the Senate has given a voice to Texas women and girls. It’s now the Texas House’s turn to finally protect privacy and eliminate the patchwork of confusing school district and local government policies for showers, locker rooms, and bathrooms.”

“As a pastor of a Hispanic and predominantly Spanish-speaking church in Texas, I stand in full support of Senate Bill three the Texas privacy act. I had my sermon subpoenaed by the government for simply speaking up about this issue. I know the terrible things that can happen when you allow the local government to handle this issue without specific law in place for protection. Please pass SB 3.”
