VICTORY! Texas House Passes Bill to Get Porn Out of School Libraries

Austin, TX – May 26, 2025: The Texas House of Representatives voted, by a bipartisan vote, 87-57 to pass Senate Bill 13 by Senator Angela Paxton, a bill that seeks to remove pornographic books from school libraries and recognize parental rights when it comes to library book selection and transparency about the books students have available to them.
Mary Elizabeth Castle, Director of Government Relations for Texas Values said:
“I am pleased that the Texas Legislature did not hesitate on fixing this issue. Parents are still facing major problems and setbacks due to a lack of clear policy and legal foundation regarding the removal of pornographic library books from school libraries. SB 13 will ensure that students are reading rigorous, thought provoking literature and ensure that parents can have peace about what their students’ have access to at school.”
Senate Bill 13 is a continuation of a policy from the previous legislative session that sought to address sexually explicit books in school libraries. That law, HB 900, had certain provisions struck down by the courts. This created confusion amongst schools with some parents finding that schools did not understand which parts of the law were upheld and should be followed.
