Trump Admin: Texas Doesn’t Have To Fund Abortion, Can Still Serve Women

Austin, Texas – The Department of Health and Human Services (HSS) Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) has granted Texas a Medicaid waiver to fund the Healthy Texas Women program instead of Planned Parenthood. This ruling reverses an Obama-era rule and restores $350 million in federal funding for Healthy Texas Women. Prior to this the program was funded by the state with General Revenue funds, this new ruling will allow matching federal funds as well.

Jonathan Saenz, President of Texas Values said “Texas is a state that values life, and we are proud to see President Trump stand with us on this issue. Texas is proving it is possible to both care for women and protect life.”

Healthy Texas Women offers family planning and women’s health services to Texas women who earn less than 200% of the Federal Poverty Limit. In 2018, HTW served approximately 173,000 Texans.
