Texas Pastors: We Support the Freedom To Worship Act

Austin, Texas – The Senate State Affairs Committee took a major step forward today in protecting the religious liberty of Texas citizens. The Freedom to Worship Act (SB 26) and SJR 27 (a constitutional amendment to protect churches) received overwhelming support and not one single person showed up in opposition to either bill. The hearing left no doubt. Churches are essential, and we need these laws to protect churches from unconstitutional government shutdowns, specifically during any pandemic or other emergency issue.

“We’ve learned our lesson, and so have pastors, if we do not have something specific in law, some government officials will use their power to shut churches down. This is wrong, and the Freedom of Worship Act guarantees that churches are essential and protected,” said Jonathan Covey, Policy Director for Texas Values.

“There is a spiritual awakening all across America, including in Texas.  The hunger for religious freedom and expression of faith is more important than ever before.  We must be vigilant in protecting our freedom,” said Pastor Bob Long of Rally Call Ministries.
