Policy Experts Asks SBOE to Reject changes to Alamo and Christian Heritage

Austin, Texas – As the elected State Board of Education (SBOE) meets tomorrow (Tuesday, September 11th) to consider proposed changes by an unelected Work Group, which among other things, removes mention of the Alamo defenders as heroic; Texas Values policy team members have asked the SBOE to reject all of these proposed changes for Texas Public Schools.  Beyond the Alamo, there are many other changes which remove references to our Judeo-Christian heritage, Moses and America’s founding.  Texas Values has learned many members of the elected SBOE are against these changes but they are being pressured to erase our Godly heritage and bullied into denying the facts about our history. Texas Values team members have a long history of analyzing proposed changes to educational policy and classroom curriculum materials and standards.

Jonathan Saenz was one of the leading voices in 2009 and 2010 the last time there was a substantial efforts by anti-freedom and liberal pressure groups to rewrite history and remove reference to the Godly heritage in our public school textbooks and materials. Senator Donna Campbell and many others also helped lead and support elected SBOE members who said “no” to these harmful and inaccurate descriptions of our state and country.

Jonathan Saenz, President of Texas Values said “These continued liberal efforts to rewrite Texas and American history must be stopped. Not only is the history and heritage of Texas being attacked, but also some pressure groups are trying to censor and erase the facts about our –Judeo-Christian heritage in America. We did not back down in 2009 and 2010 when this fight happened before, and we will not back down this time either.  Particularly on such a significant day as September 11th. Texas Values is proud to stand with Governor Greg Abbot and Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick against these politically motivated attacks on our classroom materials and we are prepared to stand firm for Texas and America as long as it takes.”
