Gov. Abbott: Blacklock to succeed Justice Willett, Texas Values Applauds Appointment

With Texas Supreme Court Justice Don Willett soon to be confirmed as a judge on the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals, Gov. Greg Abbott today announced his intention to fill Place 2 on the bench with the Office of the Governor’s General Counsel Jimmy Blacklock.

Said Texas Values President Jonathan Saenz of the announcement:

“We strongly praise the appointment of Jimmy Blacklock, by Gov. Greg Abbott, to fill Place 2 on the Texas Supreme Court once Justice Don Willett is confirmed for the federal Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals. Mr. Blacklock has dedicated his impressive career to defending our constitutional freedoms and Texas values. We eagerly look forward to what’s ahead for him on the bench of the highest civil court in Texas.”

Mr. Blacklock is currently the General Counsel to Gov. Abbott. He previously served the State of Texas as Deputy Attorney General for Legal Counsel and Assistant Solicitor General of Texas.  Mr. Blacklock also previously served as Counsel to the Assistant Attorney General for Civil Rights under former President George W. Bush.
