Breaking! Governor Abbott Signs Law to Stop Illegal Trafficking of Abortion Drugs in Texas

Austin, TX – September 19, 2025: Wednesday, Texas Governor Greg Abbott signed into law House Bill 7, the Woman and Child Protection Act. The Woman and Child Protection Act is one of the strongest laws in the nation that will stop the illegal trafficking of abortion pills in the state of Texas. Texas currently has the Texas Heartbeat Law and has outlawed abortion after the overturning of Roe v. Wade in 2022. However, many women have been able to gain access to abortion pills through the internet, having the pills sent directly to their homes.

Mary Elizabeth Castle, Director of Government Relations said:

“I am pleased that Governor Abbott has made our pro-life laws even stronger by signing the Woman and Child Protection Act. Mailing abortion pills directly to a woman’s dorm room or home where she takes the pills alone often leads to two deaths: the mother and the baby. In Texas, we say “No more” to the illegal trafficking of these dangerous drugs!”

Texas Values testified in favor of bills to stop the trafficking of chemical abortion drugs. The Woman and Child Protection Act will go into effect on December 4.
