Breaking! 76 Texas House Members, Including Democrats, Sign On In Support Of Texas Woman’s Privacy Act

Austin, TX – March 4, 2025: The Texas Woman’s Privacy Act, authored by Representative Valoree Swanson, has received massive bipartisan support from members of the Texas House of Representatives. House Bill 239 has 76 coauthors, and so far, has gained support from a Democrat member. The bill was referred to the House State Affairs committee last week.

Representative Valoree Swanson said:

“I’m thrilled to announce that over HALF of the Texas House has co-authored this necessary and crucial piece of legislation. Our Texas women and girls deserve exclusive access to their private spaces and to feel safe in those areas. The fact that Texas is not a state with laws that protect our women and girls in their most vulnerable spaces is absurd, and its high time that we fixed that. I’m proud to author the Texas Woman’s Privacy Act, and I can’t wait to get it passed”.

Mary Elizabeth Castle, Director of Government Relations for Texas Values said:

“The members of the Texas House agree that it is common sense that men do not belong in women’s restrooms. It should be no surprise that standing with women is a bipartisan issue. It’s time for us Texas women to reclaim our rights to our spaces and make this clear in law”.

The Texas Woman’s Privacy Bill ensures that restrooms in public places are separated based on biological sex.  The legislation ensures that men are not allowed to enter restrooms, locker rooms, or even women’s prisons.

This session, a young female staffer has come forward with her story about being approached by a man in the female restroom in the state Capitol. You can read more here.

Texas Values has made legislation to protect women in private spaces a top legislative priority for the 89th Legislative Session.
