Austin ISD Parents: Hand Over Sex Education Documents

Austin, Texas – Parents with students in Austin ISD teamed up today with Texas Values to request public information from the school district.  They are seeking communications regarding the cancellation of Planned Parenthood’s Get Real curriculum in September and the subsequent arrangements to quickly pass new and controversial sex education from abortion provider Alberta Health Services in less than two months. Parents have repeatedly expressed concern this process has been rushed, and their input has been ignored. Texas Values is working to help parents uncover more information behind the recently adopted radical and hypersexualized sex education curriculum and if there are questionable actions that need to be brought to the light.

Mary Elizabeth Castle, Policy Advisor for Texas Values said “Parents have a right to know where this radical curriculum came from and who approved it. Austin ISD should have nothing to hide, and we look forward to more information.”

This request comes a week after Austin ISD approved this new curriculum at their board meeting after an overwhelming majority of local residents testified against it. This new curriculum promotes an LGBTQ ideology that is in direct conflict with traditional views on sexuality, marriage, family, and even biological facts by encouraging sexual activity and normalizing unhealthy sexual behaviors to children at a very young age. Not only does the curriculum promote homosexuality and gender confusion, but it condemns any opposition to these ideologies.  Opponents of the curriculum were repeatedly harassed throughout the night, including at a Texas Values press conference where a transgender individual was arrested, and one parent whose testimony was cut short because of “intolerant language” when she asked the board if they would be allowing drag queens into the classroom under this curriculum.  A petition sponsored by Texas Values at NoRadicalSexEd.com has over 8,000 signatures against the curriculum.
