Texas Values Urges Senate to Not Consider Obama Supreme Court Nominee

Today, President Obama announced his nomination to replace Justice Antonin Scalia on the U.S. Supreme Court.

Jonathan Saenz, President and Attorney of Texas Values, made the following statement in response to President Obama’s nomination:

“I urge the U.S. Senate to use its Constitutional advice and consent authority to not have any hearings or votes on President Obama’s nominee. There has not been an election-year Supreme Court nomination and confirmation in over 80 years, and there is no reason for the Senate to break that trend now. President Obama has already appointed two judicial activists to the Court that have voted to redefine marriage and have opposed religious freedom and protecting life in the Hobby Lobby decision. In the midst of a critically important Presidential election, with our precious constitutional freedoms on the line, it is vitally important that We the People have a say. The U.S. Senate should not consider any Supreme Court nominee until the people have voted and a new President is in office.”
