Video: University Bans Christian Cross from Players’ Helmets

*Update: The University has reversed course and will allow the memorial crosses on players’ helmets after receiving pressure from a demand letter from our friends at Liberty Institute.

Football players at Arkansas State University have been ordered by the school to either remove a Christian cross decal from their helmets or deface the cross by turning it into a mathematical sign after a attorney complained that the image violated the U.S. Constitution.

Texas Values president Jonathan Saenz debated the issue last night on FOX 7 (Austin):

“It’s outrageous that private speech of individual students is being attacked so viciously by the university simply because the type of symbol the students decided to use, to honor the fallen player on their team, was a religious one – a cross…This is unconstitutional discrimination of the worst kind.”
