VICTORY! Texas Children’s Hospital Agrees to Create and Fund Nation’s First Detransitioner Clinic

Austin, TX. – May 15, 2026: Today, the Texas Attorney General’s Office announced a settlement with Texas Children’s Hospital. The agreement requires the creation of the nation’s first multidisciplinary Detransition Clinic to assist individuals seeking to reverse prior gender-transition procedures, with all services funded by Texas Children’s Hospital and provided free of charge for the clinic’s first five years. The settlement also requires the hospital to pay $10 million related to allegations that Texas Medicaid was billed for unlawful gender-transition interventions, including the use of false diagnosis codes.
Jonathan Covey, Director of Policy for Texas Values stated:
“Texas is once again leading the nation in protecting children and holding powerful institutions accountable for harmful ‘gender transition’ procedures performed on minors. The Texas Attorney General’s Office deserves tremendous credit for securing this historic settlement, which not only imposes accountability but also establishes the nation’s first detransition clinic to help those harmed by these procedures. This is real help; not false solutions built on harmful ideology.”
Texas Values led legislative efforts in 2023 to pass S.B. 14 banning harmful gender transition procedures for minors. During the 2025 legislative session Texas Values helped pass S.B. 1257 to ensure equitable healthcare coverage for individuals who have undergone harmful gender transition procedures.
