VICTORY! SB 11, Prayer in Schools Bill, Passes Texas House!

Austin, TX – May 22, 2025: Today, the Texas House of Representatives voted 91-51 to pass SB 11 to allow a voluntary time of prayer or religious expression in public schools. Representative Spiller took a bold stand for all Texas students and courageously defended the constitutionality of private religious expression in schools. SB 11 will soon be on its way to Governor Greg Abbott’s desk.
Jonathan Covey, Director of Policy for Texas Values, said:
“Texas is sending a strong message by passing SB 11 that the value of prayer and religious freedom is substantial. Denying prayer while allowing secular expression undermines fairness and causes discrimination against people of faith – something the Founders would never have envisioned. The schoolhouse gate does not lock out the First Amendment.”
Texas Values has been the leading organization on the passage of SB 11, testifying and supporting legislators during the entire legislative process.
