VICTORY! Pro-Life Freedom of Speech Upheld by Texas Supreme Court

Austin, TX – February 24, 2023: Today the Texas Supreme Court (TXSC) ruled favorably for pro-life and freedom of speech, dismissing defamation suits by abortion organizations who sought to silence pro-life advocate Mark Lee Dickson and Right to Life of East Texas.

Regarding these cases, our President and attorney Jonathan Saenz stated:

“The Texas Supreme Court got it right by protecting the First Amendment, which is so important for the efforts to protect life as a human right. Big business abortion advocates failed miserably in their effort to silence and effectively cancel a Texas private citizen. We are grateful that we could play a role in this just outcome.”

In its opinion, the Texas Supreme Court stated:

“Perhaps no speech more deserves and requires protection from governmental censure than that critical of the government and its decisions. Such protection demonstrates our ‘profound national commitment to the principle that debate on public issues should be uninhibited, robust, and wide-open.’”

Texas Values, along with other organizations, submitted an amicus curiae (“friend of the court”) brief in support of Mark Lee Dickson and Right to Life of East Texas in the Afiya Center case decided today.
