VICTORY: Charges Dropped For Reporter Who Exposed Planned Parenthood
Today the final charges brought against investigative journalists who exposed Planned Parenthood’s sale of baby body parts have been dropped. The Harris County grand jury was originally ordered to investigate the allegations of Planned Parenthood after undercover videos released by Center for Medical Progress’ David Daleiden and Sandra Merritt showed many of Planned Parenthood’s executive team, including those at Planned Parenthood Gulf Coast, admitting to the sale of baby body parts. Instead, the grand jury accused Daleiden and Merritt of tampering with government records in their undercover investigation.
After mounting public pressure and allegations of collusion with Planned Parenthood, the Harris County District Attorneys’ decided to request the charges be dropped in “Motion to Dismiss.” The judge’s order today stated the reason for the dismissal of the charges against Daleiden and Merritt were due to “A colorable claim raised regarding whether the grand jury investigated new matters after extension orders were issued.”
Jonathan Saenz, President and Attorney of Texas Values, released the following statement:
“Justice has prevailed in Houston, Texas today for pro-life heroes. The absurd charges brought against Daleiden and Merritt were clearly brought to distract from the real criminals – Planned Parenthood. Now it’s time for real due process to take place and for Planned Parenthood to be held accountable for selling baby body parts. We congratulate Texas Values Action board member Jared Woodfill for defending David Daldeien and the rule of law so well.”
