The Ten Commandments Decision is Coming — And We’re Ready

In January 2026, the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals heard a challenge to the Texas Ten Commandments Law in Rabbi Nathan v. Alamo Heights. We are still awaiting a decision in that case that will have major implications for students and schools across our state. Texas Values filed a legal amicus brief on behalf of the law’s authors here. While we wait for a decision in this legal challenge, we are confident that Texas is on solid constitutional ground. This case is about restoring a historical and moral foundation that has long been recognized as part of our nation’s legal heritage.
In the meantime, Texas Values is not sitting on the sidelines. We are actively educating school districts across Texas about what the law requires—and what it allows. The truth is simple: school districts have both the freedom and the obligation under state law to display the Ten Commandments. That responsibility does not disappear just because a lawsuit has been filed.
It’s important to note that only a small number of school districts are involved in the current legal challenge. For every other district in Texas, the law remains in full effect. If your local school district is not part of the lawsuit, they are still required to comply and post the Ten Commandments. We are making sure school leaders understand that clearly and confidently.
We are also preparing for what comes next. When the Fifth Circuit issues its ruling, Texas Values stands ready to help facilitate immediate compliance by assisting with the placement of Ten Commandments displays in schools across the state.
This issue continues to gain momentum at the Capitol as well. Lt. Governor Dan Patrick has issued an interim charge related to SB 10, ensuring ongoing legislative focus, and the Texas Senate has established a new Select Committee on Religious Liberty to further advance and protect these foundational rights. The fight for religious freedom in Texas is moving forward on every front—and we are grateful to have you standing with us.
