Texas Elected Officials Urge Boy Scouts To Uphold Traditional Values, Reject Change in Homosexuality Policy

Prayer Vigil and Rally at BSA Headquarters set for Wednesday

Austin, TX, February 5, 2013 – Today, a group of over 30 Texas state elected officials, including state-wide office holders, state senators, state representatives, among others, released an open letter encouraging the Boy Scouts of America (BSA) to hold true to their long-standing support of family values and traditional moral principles. Governor Rick Perry also recently announced similar support at a Boy Scout event at the Texas Capitol, calling on the BSA to not rescind its currently policy on homosexuality.

The Board of the BSA is currently meeting at their National headquarters in Irving, Texas and has announced they are considering overturning their current policy of not allowing open homosexual leaders and members. Since the announcement last week of a potential policy change, concern among scouts, scout leaders, parents, churches, and elected officials has continued to grow as thousands of phone calls and emails have flooded the BSA, encouraging the Board to leave in place their current policy on homosexuality.

“The Boy Scouts should stand firm and show the country that their timeless values are not for sale to the highest bidder. Homosexual advocacy groups are using political and financial pressure to force their immorality on a private organization, and they must be stopped,” said Jonathan Saenz, President of Texas Values.

The “Save Our Scouts” Prayer Vigil and Rally has been set for Wednesday, Feb. 6 at the BSA National Headquarters at 10 a.m. The National Headquarters is located at 1325 West Walnut Hill Lane, Irving, TX.
