Release: Girls’ Safety & Privacy Law by Odessa Council at Meeting Today

Odessa, TX – October 22, 2024: Odessa City Council will meet today at 6 P.M. to discuss enacting a new city ordinance to protect safety and privacy in restroom facilities for women and girls. The proposed city ordinance defines sex by biology based on a person’s birth certificate as entered “at or near the time of birth.”
Jonathan Saenz, President & Attorney for Texas Values released the following statement:
“Women and young girls are in danger when we don’t have clear rules or laws on these issues, so that common sense and safety can be enforced by law enforcement or by private citizens. The Odessa City Council is making it a priority to protect the safety and privacy for girls, and we hope other Texas cities do the same.”
The proposed ordinance is Item 13 on the Council’s agenda and would offer valuable protections to ensure that restroom facilities in public buildings are separated by “biological sex” and that males cannot enter into female restrooms and vice versa. See the city posting here.
Texas Values has been the leading organization, for over a decade, in protecting safety and privacy in restrooms based on biological designation.
We are planning to do a live briefing on Facebook just before the City Council meeting begins.
Members of Texas Values policy team will be onsite and available for comment. Contact Ashley at media@txvalues.org or 737-314-2450 (m) to schedule an interview.
