Press Release: ACLU Called Out On School Birth Certificate Policy, by Texas Values

Fort Worth, TX – August 31, 2023: Today, Texas Values responded to a civil rights complaint filed by the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) against a public charter school in Fort Worth, Texas. The letter debunked legal claims made by the ACLU against the school’s new policy to keep their longstanding all-boys and all-girls choirs separated by sex.

Jonathan Covey, Director of Policy for Texas Values stated:

“This complaint is a politically motivated sham. Choirs separated by sex have always been recognized in law under Title IX, and there is good reason to do so. Allowing someone to break longstanding tradition for the sake of ideology only hurts deserving students who work hard to be there.”

Fort Worth Academy of Fine Arts is home to prestigious all-boys and all-girls choirs with a mission of artistic excellence.  Texas Values led a press conference in June 2023 of former FWAFA students, legislators, and supporters in support of the school board’s actions to keep boys’ and girls’ choirs separated by sex.
