Obama Speech/Appearance Turned Down By a Texas Catholic University, Again

The newspaper for St. Edward’s University is reporting that the private Catholic univeristy in Austin declined a request by the White House to consider having President Obama speak at the university during his recent trip to Texas, this week.   The university cited timing and scheduling problems as its reasons.

Turns out, St. Edward’s declined a similar request in 2007, citing concerns of President Obama’s “candidate” status at the time.

President Obama caused a widely reported controversy when he spoke at the University of Notre Dame’s commencement in 2009.

It has been reported that over 300,000 people signed a petition opposing President Obama’s speech at Notre Dame last year, prior to his speech.
