Moral Principles Prevail for Now, Boy Scouts Delay Decision on Homosexuality

Irving, TX, February 6, 2013 – Today, the National Executive Board of the Boy Scouts of America (BSA) announced that a decision on changing its homosexuality policy would be delayed to the May National Annual Meeting, saying that “the organization needs time for a more deliberate review of its membership policy.” It was anticipated that the organization would abandon its long-standing policy against openly homosexual scout leaders and members this week.

“We are glad the Boy Scouts did not make a rash decision unduly influenced by homosexual activists and corporate dollars. But, we know this issue is not over and more time will allow more people to stand up and say no to this irresponsible suggested change in policy,” said Texas Values President Jonathan Saenz.

Since the announcement last week of the likely policy change, concern among scouts, scout leaders, parents, churches, and elected officials has grown as thousands of phone calls and emails have flooded the BSA, encouraging the Board to leave in place their current policy on homosexuality. Texas Values led a “Save Our Scouts” Prayer Vigil and Rally at the BSA National Headquarters in Irving, TX earlier this morning with hundreds in attendance.
