Austin City Council Approves Anti-Life and Anti-Family Budget!

Last week, the Austin City Council voted to approve its budget for 2024-2025. This budget includes multiple disturbing amendments that do not align with Texas’s pro-life and pro-family culture. For the 6th year in a row, the leftist Austin City Council has attributed funds that would ultimately fund abortion. In the past, the Austin City Council has given funds to Jane’s Due Process, an organization that assists minor girls with getting abortions behind their parents’ backs. This year, the council decided to ignore Texas’ pro-life laws and give $400,000 of city funds to the “Reproductive Justice Fund” that would pay for travel expenses to traffic women out of the state to kill babies. As you know, Texas passed a law in 2019 that says government entities cannot use taxpayer dollars to fund abortions! Additionally, the Texas Heartbeat Law punished anyone who aids or abets in abortion.

The council also passed an amendment that will allow the city to conduct a feasibility study on an “LGBTQ community center.” The Austin City Council has been planning for months to gain interest on a taxpayer funded center focusing on LGBT rights and lifestyles. Other cities who have these types of community centers often use these centers to invite children to have access to LGBT resources. So far, there has been one town hall meeting on the LGBT community center.

This proposal is also concerning because of the impact this center could have on Austin children. If built, this “community center” would likely become a place where radical gender ideology is taught to minors.

These types of political antics by local governments are even more reason to remain steadfast and continue working towards preserving faith, family, and freedom at the Texas legislature.
