| Tell SBOE: Don’t Erase 250 years of History! |
| Tomorrow at 8 a.m. Registration Opens for Public Testimony on the Social Studies standards at the Texas State Board of Education! Sign up and let your voice be heard to preserve our American and Texas heritage! The SBOE will be taking public testimony on the most recent draft of the Social Studies TEKS next Monday, June 22. You must register in advance in order to speak. The deadline to register is Friday, June 19, at 5p.m. Sign up here to testify on Monday, June 22 , Agenda Item 2 on Social Studies: https://sboe.texas.gov/about-tea/leadership/state-board-of-education/sboe-meetings/public-testimony-registration . You can also submit written testimony to this address: Testimony@sboe.texas.gov BUT we need as many as possible to show up in person! Next week, the Texas State Board of Education (SBOE) will make a historic vote that will impact K-12 Texas students for years to come! This will be your last chance to testify and make a difference. So far, Texas Values has advocated regarding the following concerns: – Removing the claim of Islam’s influence on the Alamo (a well-known “Christian” mission that was the location of a very important battle in Texas history). – Adding back the founding fathers in high school – Adding back the Bible and Greek & Roman thought as an influence for the American Revolution – Adding back the fact that Texas was once its own country – Suggestion that the world’s major religions trace their roots to Abraham instead of saying that Abraham is the father of all 3 major world religions – Decrease the heavy reliance of the year “1619” in elective African American course so that it will not draw in curriculum from CRT heavy “1619 Project”. – Adding back that Moses is the author of the “10 Commandments” and that he is recognized as a lawgiver Thankfully, all of the above have been addressed. But the job is not done! Next week will be the final vote. Groups who want to alter and erase history know this and that is why they are bringing large groups of testifiers in order to offer last minute amendments. That’s why we need as many people as possible to show up next week to save American and Texas history and stand up for our Christian founding. Some talking points include: – Telling the SBOE to keep the good changes mentioned above – Resists any amendments that seek to undermine good citizenship or appreciation for our country – Resists any “streamlining” amendments that will delete or reduce references to Christianity, religious liberty, or religious historical figures – Reject any false claims of influence by any particular group that cannot be verified (ex. Islam influence on the Alamo from March meeting) – Create thorough standards for both Texas and American history For questions about previous meetings please visit our website or email us at info@txvalues.org. |
