Breaking! Texas School District Bans Ten Commandments; AG Sues in Court
Austin, TX – November 18, 2025: Today, the Texas Attorney General’s office has taken official action against two school districts who have banned the Ten Commandments from their schools. Texas Ten Commandments Law requires the display of the Ten Commandments in public schools. This new law was signed into law by Governor Greg Abbott this past legislative session and went into effect September 1, 2025.
Leander and Round Rock ISD, school districts who have a history of ignoring the law and ignoring the rights of parents, have decided to take matters into their own hands and have now put themselves into legal jeopordy; in risk of having to use precious school resources to pay for legal fees for their irresponsible actions.
The Texas Attorney General’s office has wasted no time trying to correct and address this hostility to religion, including in another school district, Galveston ISD, where the Attorney General’s Office took legal action last week.
ACLU lawyers from New York filed a lawsuit earlier this year to effectively ban the posters from public school classrooms. That lawsuit only involves 11 school districts out of 1,200 in Texas. Round Rock, Leander, and Galveston ISD are not a part of that lawsuit so they’re not required to take any direction from the court on this issue. All the other school districts are required to follow the law. The Attorney General’s Office has made that clear to all of the districts in the state.
