Texas Students and Female Athletes are Safe from Biden’s Re-write of Title IX Implemented Today

Austin, TX – August 1, 2024: Today, the new rule from the U.S. Department of Education that redefines “sex” to mean gender identity in Title IX went into effect. Millions of students across the United States will be subject to the Title IX re-write, but schools in the state of Texas are safe thanks to a recent court ruling that issued an injunction on the new Title IX rule. Schools in Texas will not be forced to adopt the new rule that would allow boys in girls’ sports, locker rooms, and private spaces. Currently, 26 states have legal challenges against the new Title IX rule.

Mary Elizabeth Castle, Director of Government Relations for Texas Values said:

“Today is a frightening day for female students and athletes across the country who are seeing 52 years of progress and protection being stripped away from them with a nonsensical and illegal re-write of Title IX. God bless Texas for protecting our girls and teachers from having to follow a disastrous policy”.

As this new policy is being implemented in the United States today, a female boxer from Italy, Angela Carini, had to unfairly compete and was pummeled by a male boxer from Algeria on an international stage. The International Olympic Committee has come under criticism over the past few years for not creating clear policies for keeping men out of women’s sports.

In addition to threatening girls’ athletic opportunities and scholarships, the new Title IX rule allows for schools to hide gender transitions of minors from parents and creates an offense of sexual harassment for students and teachers who may use the wrong pronoun. The new rule also forces schools to provide information to kids of all ages about access to abortion.
