Texas Values Announces Legislative Team and Priorities
Texas Values and Texas Values Action today announced their legislative team and policy priorities for the 2021, 87th Texas Legislative Session. Texas Values is one of the leading organizations and voices during the Texas Legislative Session, since 2013. As always, Texas Values will have a team member at the Texas Capitol during all 140 day of the 2021 Texas Legislative Session. Texas Values has a legacy of helping pass a religious liberty and pro-life law during the past four state legislative sessions.
“Our churches, our unborn children, and our individual freedoms are under attack like never before. Our team is looking forward to the essential work of protecting faith, family and freedom during the 2021 Texas Legislative Session,” said Jonathan Saenz, president of Texas Values.
Jonathan Saenz, Texas Values President and Attorney, will continue to provide vision and guidance for the policy team this session as he has since founding Texas Values in 2012. Mr. Saenz has provided law and policy expertise at the Texas Capitol since 2005.
Jonathan Covey, J.D., joined Texas Values in the spring of 2020 and will be leading the legislative and lobbying efforts as the new Director of Policy. Mr. Covey comes to the Texas Values team with a law school education and over 6 years of professional experience at the Texas Capitol, including as a Senior Staff member for elected official Senator Bob Hall and Chief of Staff for Representative James White.
Mary Elizabeth Castle, J.D., also makes her return as Policy Advisor for Texas Values and Texas Values Action and will be assisting with the legislative and lobbying efforts at the Texas Capitol after being a key member of the Texas Values and Texas Values Action team during the 2019 Texas Legislative Session.
Additionally, Greg McCarthy will be joining the legislative team at Texas Values and Texas Values Action to help with communication efforts and policy analysis and research. Greg is a recent graduate of the University of Texas Austin with a Bachelor’s degree in Government. Greg has previous experience working for elected officials from Texas, and he previously completed an internship with Texas Values in 2019.
Below are some of the issues that Texas Values and Texas Values Action will work hard to advance this session:
Religious Freedom: The need for religious freedom and conscience protections is increasing, specifically when it comes to the issues of marriage and human sexuality, for individuals, parents, business owners, government workers, and now churches, and pastors continue to be attacked and threatened when it comes to sincerely held religious beliefs or just to stay open. Ban the Bible bills that seek to attack biblical values, by placing the controversial terms sexual orientation and gender identity (SOGI) into state law, will be strongly opposed by our team.
Life: Unborn children in Texas can still be killed inside the womb. Some governmental entities in Texas still financially support abortion providers like Planned Parenthood. Our efforts will continue to support protecting unborn children and ending any government use of taxpayer dollars or subsidies for abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood.
Protection of Families & Children: Texas Values and Texas Values Action will work to make sure children are protected from dangerous operations and medications and make sure all girls and young women have the right to excel in sports. We want to make sure we keep the momentum going from our efforts at the State Board of Education to protect children from LGBTQ indoctrination and radical sex education.
