U.S. Supreme Court Takes Up Marriage Case

Today, the U.S. Supreme Court announced that it would hear an appeal of a ruling by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit. The Sixth Circuit ruling upheld the freedom of voters to define marriage as the union of a man and a woman.

In response to the decision of the Supreme Court to review the challenge to marriage laws from the Sixth Circuit, Texas Values president and attorney, Jonathan Saenz, released the following statement:

“The important questions on this matter are – what is marriage and who gets to decide? Marriage is a union of one man and one woman and the issue is handled best when the people are allowed to vote. Nearly forty two years ago the Roe v. Wade decision was handed down giving us little confidence in the Supreme Court’s ability to solve or resolve an issue by judicial force, as we see the debates continue year after year on abortion. For marriage, the Court should learn from its past failed social policy experiment and respect the political process and the voice and role of the people and our Texas constitution.”

Texas Values continues to be the leading voice and force in protecting marriage between one man and one woman in Texas. Texas Values was at the oral argument on Texas’ marriage case at the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals earlier this month.
