Texas Values Joins Huge Nationwide Coalition to Overturn Obergefell Launching Today

Austin, TX, January 28, 2026 – Today, Texas Values joined Them Before Us, Family Research Council, Focus on the Family, American Family Association, Lila Rose and Live Action, the Daily Wire’s Michael Knowles, Allie Beth Stuckey, and more than 47 other state and national organizations to launch today the campaign Greater Than, with the goal of ultimately overturning Obergefell.
The Greater Than campaign believes that children’s needs are greater than adult desires, ambitions, and the 2015 redefinition of marriage in Obergefell v. Hodges, which effectively made mothers and fathers optional in law and culture. By prioritizing children’s inherent rights to both their mother and father–essential for their stability, identity, safety, and thriving–the campaign seeks to reverse the societal harms that have elevated adult desires over children’s well-being.
President and Attorney for Texas Values, Jonathan Saenz said:
“The Obergefell Supreme Court decision in 2015 was a misguided mistake, as it allowed five unelected judges to override Texas marriage laws that were supported by over 75% of voters at the ballot box. This illegitimate power grab has affected Texas families and children in a negative way ever since. It is time that our state and country, once again, uphold God’s design of marriage being between one man and one woman for the benefit of society and the well-being of our nation’s children.”
When Obergefell invented a “right” to marry a person of the same sex, the law was forced to accomplish what biology prohibits, making two adults of the same sex, parents of a child. That required a decade-long overhaul of parenthood centered around adult desire rather than the child’s needs.
Katy Faust, Founder and President of the child-advocacy organization, Them Before Us, leading the Greater Than coalition said:
“The legal result of so-called adult equality has been the commodification of children. Ask the children who have been starved of maternal or paternal love, acquired by predators, mass produced, trafficked across borders, struggling with identity confusion, or subjected to risky households if they feel ‘equal’ now. We will retake marriage for the sake of these children whose basic needs should never have been made less than in the eyes of the law.”
“The connection between natural marriage and child protection is primal, real, and unescapable. The Obergefell holding ultimately cannot stand against it.” Faust added.
For a number of years, Texas Values has stood for the definition of marriage being between a man and a woman at the state Capitol by defeating the passage of “Ban the Bible Bills”. Texas Values has also spoken out against school districts in Texas that have introduced sex education courses that encourage kids to engage in dangerous same sex behavior as children and to eliminate the term “mother” and “father” in their vocabulary. Texas Values President and Attorney Jonathan Saenz provided legal and policy assistance in the lawsuit against the same sex spousal benefits policy in Houston, Texas in 2013. The same sex spousal benefit legal battle was the precursor for the Houston Bathroom Ordinance of 2014.
The Greater Than coalition includes over 47 state and national organizations, all dedicated to restoring the primacy of the natural mother-father-child bond in culture and law, and retaking marriage on behalf of children to end the decade-long injustice they have suffered. Coalition members present as a “who’s who” in the conservative movement including Them Before Us, Family Research Council, Focus on the Family, American Family Association, pro-life activist Lila Rose, political commentator Michael Knowles of The Daily Wire, leader of the Relatable podcast Allie Beth Stuckey, Josh Hammer of Newsweek, and more. All public coalition members are listed at GreaterThanCampaign.com/about-us.
