Life Wins over Abortion! Human Life Protection Act Goes into Effect Today; Unborn Lives Saved

AUSTIN, TX – August 25, 2022: The Human Life Protection Act, a law that was contingent on the overturning of the U. S. Supreme Court abortion case Roe v. Wade from Texas, goes into effect today across Texas, creating a total ban on abortion in the Lone Star State.

On June 24th this year, the U. S. Supreme Court struck down the 1973 Roe v. Wade case and ruled (in Dobbs v. Jackson) that states can decide on their own how to handle the abortion issue.

Jonathan Saenz, President and attorney for Texas Values, released this statement:

“This is a great day for Texas and we can now truly say that life is a fully protected human right statewide. After Roe, no woman or baby stands alone. We, along with many others, are here ready to love, serve, and support the new babies whose hearts can now beat strong without fear of an attack in the womb.”

The Human Life Protection Act was signed into law in 2021, with the support of Texas Values and Texas Values Action but became effective when Roe v. Wade was struck down, but had a procedural timeline that has now been completed.

Numerous other states have similar laws or have also passed new laws to ban abortion, and since September of 2021 when the Texas Heartbeat Law went into effect it, it is estimated that over 53,000 lives have been saved from abortion in Texas.

The State of Texas has also allocated $100 million dollars to help pregnant mothers and babies through the Alternatives to Abortion Program and over 300 pregnancy care centers across Texas are providing charitable service and resources to mothers and babies every day. More information about this program can be found at TexasHeartbeatLaw.com.

Texas Values is the largest faith and family pro-life organization in Texas and its team led the faith and family effort to pass the Texas Heartbeat law, and supported the passage of the Human Life Protection Act and many other pro-life laws since 2012.
