Breaking! Court Ruling in TX Commandments Law

San Antonio, TX – August 20, 2025: Judge Fred Biery ruled against the Texas Ten Commandments Law today. The federal district court decision can be found here. Texas Values Attorney Jonathan Saenz was at the court hearing in San Antonio on Friday and Texas Values filed a legal brief with the court in support of the Texas Ten Commandments law. This ruling only applies to a few school districts in Texas. (Alamo Heights Independent School District, North East Independent School District, Lackland Independent School District, Austin Independent School District, Northside Independent School District, Lake Travis Independent School District, Dripping Springs Independent School District, Houston Independent School District, Fort Bend Independent School District, Cypress Fairbanks Independent School District, and Plano Independent School District.)
Texas Values Attorney Jonathan Saenz released the following quote:
“Most U. S. Supreme Court and 5th Circuit Court of Appeals case victories that preserve America and religious freedom, always start with a bad lower court ruling, and it will be the same here for the Texas Ten Commandments law. This was a softball case and decision, but no surprise here as Judge Biery is the same judge who told a Texas high school valedictorian that she couldn’t pray or even say the word “prayer” in her speech – which was quickly overturned on appeal by the court and then Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott. This ruling only applies to the school districts in this case, all other schools can display the posters freely.”
Texas Values was one of the leading organizations working for the passage of SB 10, the Texas Ten Commandments legislation, and stands shoulder to shoulder with partner organizations such as First Liberty Institute prepared to defend SB 10 against any court challenges brought against it.
