School Board Sex Ed Final Vote On Textbooks This Week: Texas

AUSTIN, Texas –The Texas State Board of Education meets this week to hear testimony and take a final vote on the Health education textbooks for use in public schools in the state of Texas. The testimonies will be held in person in the formal SBOE meeting beginning at 1pm today.

Mary Elizabeth Castle, Senior Policy Advisor for Texas Values released the following statement:

“The State Board of Education has an opportunity to make sure school districts don’t have to buy radical sex education textbooks. Last minute efforts are being made to get highly politicized drug and pro-abortion based Sex Ed taught in schools. The SBOE must stand their ground and say ‘no’ again this year.”

The SBOE will continue meeting through Friday, November 19th and the final vote will be taken to approve or disapprove the Health textbooks/instructional materials. Textbooks approved on Friday will be added to the recommended list for all Texas school districts.

The materials to be considered at the meeting are: Human Kinetics, Lessonbee, QuaverEd for elementary school students, and Goodheart Willcox for middle school and high school students.
