Bipartisan Sonogram Bill Passes Texas Senate

Stay posted for updates from inside the Texas Capitol.

2:53 p.m. SB 16, the Sonogram Bill, passes 21-10.  All Rs except, Sen. Wentworth, voted for the sonogram bill.  All Ds, except Sen. Uresti, Sen. Lucio, and Sen. Zaffirini, voted against it.

1:15 p.m.  Sen. Uresti offers amendment.  Woman will have to wait 2 hours between sonogram and abortion, instead of 24 hours.

12:30 p.m.  Sen. Van de Putte (who is expected to oppose the bill)  makes a comment about fitting spending for children’s issue into a woman’s reproductive body part, and Sen. Nelson responds that she has “one” too, and takes a different view on the issue and explains that we should have this bill to make sure a mom has that chance to make the connection with her baby, before she makes an irreversible decision.

12:21 p.m. Sen. Patrick and Sen. Whitmire are having a debate about the Sonogram Bill.

11:29 a.m.  SB 16 has now been called up for a vote.  Sen. Patrick is explaining the bill.
