Pflugerville ISD To Take Up Same-Sex Benefits In Public Hearing This Thursday

After weeks of outrage by citizens, Pflugerville ISD is finally putting its unconstitutional same-sex benefits policy on the agenda of its Dec. 13 board meeting. If you live in or around Pflugerville (or have friends or family that do), this coming Thursday is your chance to have your voice heard!

In October, Pflugerville ISD, directed by Superintendent Charles Dupre, approved same-sex partner benefits for school district employees, becoming the first district in Texas to do so, and this action was taken without a public hearing or vote. Despite Pflugerville parents, local pastors, and city leaders expressing deep concern over this radical shift in policy, no change in the district’s decision has occurred thus far.

Texas Values and Alliance Defending Freedom submitted a brief last week to Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott, requesting that his office find the Pflugerville ISD and other local governmental entities in violation of the Texas Constitution. Texas State Senator Dan Patrick made a request for the opinion on Nov. 2. PISD and other local governments are creating and recognizing a new legal status of “domestic partnerships” as a method to offer marital benefits to unmarried government employees in direct violation of the Texas Marriage Amendment. PISD and other local governmental entities in Texas are blatantly violating the Texas Constitution and the will of the Texas people, which supported the Texas Marriage Amendment by an over 76% vote. The language of the Texas Constitution and its legislative intent are crystal clear on this issue. For more information read our brief and our recent Statesman editorial.

Action Alert: Pflugerville ISD is reconsidering its same-sex benefits policy. The issue is finally being put on the agenda for a School Board meeting on Thursday, Dec. 13 at 7 p.m. in the Pflugerville High School cafeteria, 1301 W. Pecan Street. We have confirmed the other side is ready to show in full force. We need Pflugerville taxpayers to turn out and let your voice be heard! Please contact us at [email protected] if you plan to attend. We also encourage you to contact the board directly and express your support for traditional marriage.
