New Texas Rules to Protect the Dignity of Aborted Children

The Texas Health and Human Services Commission issued proposed rules that ensure the bodies of aborted children be treated with dignity through cremation or interment, rather than be disposed of in a landfill or sewage system. Last summer, Planned Parenthood was caught selling baby body parts in investigative footage released by the Center for Medical Progress. The footage led to Planned Parenthood being put under investigation by the U.S. Congress and the Texas Senate over the sale of baby body parts.

The Office of Governor Greg Abbott stated, “Governor Abbott believes human and fetal remains should not be treated like medical waste, and the proposed rule changes affirms the value and dignity of all life. For the unborn, the mothers and the hospital and clinic staff, the governor believes it is imperative to establish higher standards that reflect our respect for the sanctity of life. Further, it is Governor Abbott’s hope that the legislature will consider legislation next session to enshrine the new rules into state law.”

Jonathan Saenz, President of Texas Values stated, “Unborn children in Texas deserve to be treated with dignity and respect. We thank the Texas Health and Human Services Commission for proposing these important rules that value the sanctity of human life.”
