Mass Gay “Wedding” Planned for Austin at Capitol on Saturday

You may have missed it but Tuesday, October 11th was National Coming Out Day.  To celebrate, the Rev. Meg. Barnhouse, minister of the First Unitarian Universalist Church of Austin will perform a mass same sex “marriage” and commitment ceremony Saturday, October 15, on the steps of the Texas Capitol.  Other cities, including San Antonio, will be having similar events.

The “marriages” will not be legal. Same sex marriage is prohibited in Texas by law and through a constitutional amendment passed stating, “marriage in this state consists only of the union between one man and one woman.”  The amendment passed in 2005 by a overwhelming margin of 76-24 percent.  Despite the strong support for traditional marriage in the state of Texas (and anywhere in the country this issue has  been put to a vote), the GLBT lobby continues to attack the bedrock institutions of our society, especially marriage, labeling those opposed to their radical agenda as “haters” and “bigots” and comparing us to racists.  In a recent sermon promoting the event this weekend, Rev. Barnhouse stated that we have a “racist society” and that she is “in the middle of a national campaign against hate…”

Attempts to change marriage laws from that of a union between a man and a woman continue to have wide spread negative effects, particularly on religious liberty.  In states that have redefined marriage, religious adoption and foster care agencies are being targeted and pushed out of work,  and small business owners are increasingly under the threat of being fined or sued for not accommodating same-sex couples. Not to mention the battle that will take place over education as religious parents will find it increasingly difficult to keep their children from being indoctrinated with beliefs contrary to their own in our public schools.
