LGBT, Abortion Politics Not Healthy For Texas Students, Say Texans At Ed Board

Austin – Today, the State Board of Education (SBOE) began hearing testimony from hundreds of Texans on the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) strand for Health Education. Many testifiers came forward in favor of the standards as completed at the September meeting that promotes abstinence-based sex education.

Texas Values testified at the hearing, thanking the board for their efforts to protect Texas schoolchildren and encouraging members to resist last-minute efforts to add harmful LGBTQ amendments or changes. Many individuals echoed that they do not want radical LGBTQ sex education. State Senator Bob Hall also wrote a letter to an SBOE member urging the adoption of the final Health TEKS draft.

The board concluded a pre-set 3 hours of testimony on the Health TEKS shortly after noon today, and will be working on amendments later today. The final vote on the Health TEKS is expected to come on Friday.
