Gov. Abbott Signs Save Women’s Sports Bill Into Law

Austin, Texas—Today, Texas Governor Greg Abbott signed into law the Save Women’s Sports bill (H.B. 25) that says the athlete’s sex on the birth certificate nearest at birth will be used to decide if a student plays in girls’ or boys’ sports in high school sports. Representative Valoree Swanson and Senator Charles Perry authored H.B. 25. This legislation protects girls’ sports by making sure that biological males cannot compete unfairly in girl’s sports.

Mary Elizabeth Castle, Senior Policy Advisor for Texas Values, released the following statement:

“We are grateful that Governor Abbott signed the Save Women’s Sports bill into law today. Now, all girls across Texas  are free to play without being forced to compete  against biological males for precious championships or scholarship opportunities that were given by Title IX. Texas law now confirms the biological reality in sports and Texas is joining 8 other states in leading on this issue.”

Today, Texas becomes the 9th state in the nation to pass this type of legislation.
