Federal Court to Decide if Children Should Access Explicit Books

Austin, TX — October 28, 2022: Today at 11 a.m., the U.S District Court for the Western District of Texas in Austin will hear a case regarding explicit and pornographic books being placed in the children’s sections of the Llano Public Library. Llano County, its Judge, all four county commissioners, its Library Director and four members of the Library Advisory Board were sued by seven Llano County residents who claim their 1st and 14th amendments were violated when pornographic books were relocated from the children’s section to the adult section of our libraries and when the advisory board closed our meetings to the public.

Mary Elizabeth Castle, Director of Government Relations for Texas Values released this statement:

“Texas children deserve protection from sexual indoctrination from radical agendas. The library books in Llano County are extremely harmful and inappropriate for children, and kids should not be able to access them in the public library. The defendants in this case should be allowed to protect children from these sexually explicit books.”

The hearing will address an emergency injunction that, if granted, would order the library to return the explicit materials to the children’s section. The hearing this Friday is an example of the recent battle of inappropriate library books in school libraries across the state of Texas. Texas Values has played a role in informing parents of the need to get involved in the monitoring of library books and classroom materials that are given to children. Texas Values also testified at the Texas House Public Education interim hearing regarding parental rights in regards to library books.

The hearing will take place at the federal court building in Austin, Texas at 501 West 5th Street Court No. 4, Austin, TX 78701. A member of the Texas Values team will be present at the hearing.
