Dripping Springs Parents to Speak out on School Policy Allowing Boys in Girls Bathrooms
Tonight, parents in Dripping Springs Independent School District (ISD) will pack the room for a Public Forum at the School Board Meeting to express their concerns after local parents discovered that the school distict has a new policy and practice of allowing male students to go into girls’ bathrooms. Parents were not notified of this school district policy change by the administration and are very concerned for the privacy and safety of all students. There are reports that the new policy of allowing boys into girls bathrooms is being applied in all grade levels, K-12, in the school district. Dripping Springs I.S.D. is located just southwest of Austin.
“Dripping Springs I.S.D.’s backroom, reckless new policy to allow boys into girls’ bathrooms is an attack on parental rights and ignores the privacy and safety concerns for all children. This new policy comes right after Fort Worth I.S.D. retreated from a similar policy, and a Texas federal judge recently stopped this same policy by the Obama administration all of which could put the school district in legal jeopardy,” said Jonathan Saenz, president and attorney of Texas Values.
State Representative Jason Isaac, whose district includes Drippings Springs I.S.D., released this statement to the media about this issue: “I learned about it late last week and am still studying the issue. However, I don’t think any boys, no matter their age, should be using girls’ restrooms and vice versa.”
