BREAKING: TX Supreme Court Hearing Tomorrow on SB 14 Gender Transition Ban Law

Austin, TX – 9:00 am tomorrow, the Texas Supreme Court will hold oral arguments in Austin in State of Texas v. Loe et al. to decide the constitutionality of SB 14, Gender Transition Child Protection Law enacted by Republican and Democrat state House and Senate members early last year. Texas Values filed a legal amicus brief in this case supporting the State of Texas’ defense of the law to protect children.

Jonathan Covey, Director of Policy for Texas Values stated:

“SB 14 has always been about preventing radical, experimental kid-castrating procedures. These interventions are inconsistent with even the most basic standards of medical ethics and banning their use is a valid and legitimate exercise of legislative authority. We are confident the Court will agree.”

Texas Values Legal and Policy team members strongly supported SB 14 in the Texas Legislature, assisting in the drafting of the bill, as well as testifying at both the Texas House and Texas Senate public hearings and serving as an expert resource to legislative authors.

Texas Values’ legal brief to the Texas Supreme Court argues that male and female bodies are unchangeable, and that SB 14 protects children equally by prohibiting harmful gender transition interventions for both sexes. The brief also addresses parental rights as fundamental liberty interests that, while limited in certain rare instances, such as those covered by S.B. 14, deserve to be protected with the highest standard of judicial scrutiny.

Members of the Texas Values policy team will be at the court hearing tomorrow and will be available for comment; we will be holding a LIVE BRIEFING outside the Texas Supreme Court, 201 W 14th St STE 104, Austin, TX 78711 after the court hearing concludes at noon. Contact Ashley at [email protected] or 737-314-2450 for interviews.
