Breaking! Texas Women’s Privacy Act Headed to Governor’s Desk

Austin, TX – September 3, 2025: The Texas Women’s Privacy Act is headed to Governor Abbott’s desk after the Texas Senate voted tonight to accept amendments from the Texas House on Senate Bill 8.
Mary Elizabeth Castle, Director of Government Relations for Texas Values said:
“I am thrilled that Texas women and girls will be safer now that legislation has passed to protect women’s privacy and dignity, and it is about to become law. This is a victory for all the Texas women and girls. I am thankful to the leaders of both the House and the Senate for their efforts to advance this bill to Governor Abbott’s desk for his signature”.
Last week, the Texas House passed an amended version of the Texas Women’s Privacy Act that increased the penalties for non-compliance. The first penalty was increased from $5,000 to $25,000 and the penalty for non-compliance for a second time was increased from $25,000 to $125,000. Government entities, not individuals, would be responsible for paying these penalties if they do not comply with the law.
Texas became the 20th state to pass such a law, and Senate Bill 8 received bipartisan support in the Texas House. Governor Greg Abbott, Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick, and Texas House Speaker Dustin Burrows all stated publicly that this was a priority bill to pass this year.
