Breaking! Texas Values Hosts Women’s Privacy ‘Day of Action’ to Ask for Hearing for SB 240, Texas Women’s Privacy Act

Austin, TX – May 8, 2025: Texas Values, along with a group of statewide organizations will host a Day of Action at the Texas Capitol on Wednesday, May 14 from 9 a.m. – 4p.m. for the Texas Women’s Privacy Act (SB 240/HB 239), which still has not received a hearing in the Texas House Committee on State Affairs. The Day of Action will include a press conference in the morning and afternoon presentations and activities for Texans to engage with legislators on how to protect women and girls in their restrooms, locker rooms, and showers. National leaders on protecting women’s private spaces, Payton McNabb and Amie Ichikawa, will be in Austin for this day.

Mary Elizabeth Castle, Director of Government Relations for Texas Values said:

“The clock is ticking and women cannot wait! We want our Texas Legislature to pass clear laws that keep men out of women’s locker rooms, shelters, and private spaces. There have been countless of reasons, this session alone, to make sure that women are safe when they go to the restroom. The Texas House must hold a hearing for The Texas Women’s Privacy Act and Governor Abbott must sign it into law”.

Payton McNabb, Independent Women Ambassador, is a former high school volleyball player who was knocked unconscious when a male volleyball player, whom she was forced to compete against, spiked a volleyball in her face. She was honored by President Trump during the State of the Union address for her work on protecting women’s sports and women’s privacy. She was punished by her sorority when she asked a man to leave the women’s restroom on her college campus.

Amie Ichikawa, Independent Women Ambassador, is a former inmate who was forced to bunk and share intimate spaces with men who were transferred to a female prison.

The Texas Women’s Privacy Act, SB 240, by Senator Mayes Middleton passed out of the Senate in April and was referred to the House State Affairs Committee. To learn more about the Texas Women’s Privacy Act, please visit https://protectwomensprivacytexas.com/.
