Breaking! Texas Senate Holds Hearing on “Texas Women’s Privacy Act”

Austin, TX – August 4, 2025: Today, the Senate Committee on State Affairs will have a public hearing on The Texas Women’s Privacy Act, Senate Bill 7, authored by Senator Mayes Middleton and Senator Lois Kolkhorst. The Texas Women’s Privacy Act ensures that women are protected in their sex separated spaces by making sure that each person enters the locker room, shower, prison, etc. based on their biological sex.

Mary Elizabeth Castle, Director of Government Relations for Texas Values said:

“I am excited to see that the Texas Legislature is moving quickly to pass important legislation to protect Texas women and girls. In the Regular Session Texas proved that we know what a woman is, now we will prove that you don’t mess with Texas women in their privacy and dignity.”

The Texas Senate passed a version of the Texas Women’s Privacy Act during the Regular Session of the 89th Texas Legislature. However, that bill, SB 240, did not receive a hearing in the Texas House. Governor Greg Abbott placed protecting women in their private spaces on the Special Session call and the Lt. Governor has prioritized the issue by giving it the low bill number of SB 7 in the Senate.

Last week, Texas House Representative Valoree Swanson announced that her bill, HB 32, had 81 authors in the Texas House. Her bill has enough support to pass in the Texas House.

Texas Values has made legislation to protect women in private spaces a top legislative priority. Learn more at ProtectWomensPrivacyTexas.com.
