Breaking! Carroll ISD Wins In Legal Battle Against Biden Administration’s Title IX Rewrite, Texas Girls Will Be Protected
Fort Worth, TX – July 11, 2024: Today, a federal judge in Texas issued an injunction against the Biden administration’s Title IX rule in a lawsuit filed by the Carroll Independent School District against the Biden administration. Carroll ISD, who is represented by Alliance Defending Freedom, filed a lawsuit in May against the recently published Title IX rule that redefines “sex” to include “gender identity”. This comes after both Carroll ISD, represented by Alliance Defending Freedom, and the Department of Education presented their cases before Judge O’Connor on Monday. Now that the Title IX rule has been enjoined in Carroll ISD, the district will be free to enforce their policies that protect girls in athletics and private spaces, and their policies that protect first amendment rights. Texas Values submitted an amicus brief in the lawsuit in support of Carroll ISD. Texas Values has a history of supporting and assisting Carroll ISD with school policies for a number of years.
Mary Elizabeth Castle, Director of Government Relations for Texas Values said:
“Today’s victory for female students in Southlake-Carroll is paramount in the huge war that Biden has waged on women with the new Title IX rule. We want to see all school districts in the state of Texas be free from being forced to adopt this radical re-write of reality that would force girls to give up their educational and athletic opportunities, and even their dignity. Today, the Department of Education learned a lesson: don’t mess with Texas girls.”
The Carroll ISD Board of Trustees President gave a speech during the June public meeting stating why the school district chose to file a lawsuit against the new Title IX in order to protect its students. During the meeting, many members of the Southlake community and students in the school district spoke in support of the school board taking a stance against the Department of Education’s re-write of Title IX. Prior to the board meeting, Texas Values hosted a press conference with Alliance Defending Freedom, Southlake Families, Judge Tim O’Hare and many others who support Carroll ISD.
Previously, the court ruled in a lawsuit brought by Attorney General Ken Paxton, that the draft of the Title IX re-write cannot be enforced. Texas is among 25 states that have challenged the Biden administration’s re-write of Title IX. Prior to the new Title IX rule, Texas had laws in place to ensure that women and girls are not forced to compete against males in sports at both the K-12 and collegiate level.
