Government Gives Abortion Group “Free Rent” For Property Rental, in Texas

Austin, Texas – The Austin City Council (with one Council member, Ellen Troxclair, voting against) voted today on leasing property for 20 years to Planned Parenthood for $1 a year, essentially giving the abortion provider “free rent.” Meanwhile, Austin residents are facing numerous ballot propositions that would raise their taxes in order to cover costs. Some experts say over 20 years this deal would be close to a $4 million dollar tax break for Planned Parenthood.

The property is located in East Austin and is worth over $111,000 per year, an area where minorities and lower income families can no longer afford to live. A proposal from Austin Life Care which offered to pay the market rate for the same property was not even considered. Planned Parenthood is the nation’s largest abortion provider.

Nicole Hudgens, Policy Analyst for Texas Values said: “One would think Austin City Council would ensure Planned Parenthood would pay their fair share since residents are dealing with school closures and major increases in property taxes. Instead, residents’ property taxes are equivalent to Planned Parenthood’s special rent rate for thousands of years! Let’s not forget, this is the same organization that has covered up child sex abuse and has been caught on tape talking about selling baby body parts.”

Jonathan Saenz, President of Texas Values said: “This sweetheart government deal for the nation’s largest abortion provider puts politics over the needs of the people. East Austin residents specifically should be furious. This issue is far from over.”
