What’s best for children?

Flawed Studies Seek to Push Gay ‘Marriage’ Agenda

You may have heard headlines this week like “Children of Same Sex Couples are Happier and Healthier than Peers, Research Shows” (from the Washington Post) reporting on a new study that supposedly shows that children with gay parents fare better. Sadly the headline is yet another example of the biased media pushing their agenda of redefining marriage. University of Texas Professor Mark Regnerus, who has done some groundbreaking research on this issue, has a great read on why this study is “suspect science.” His critiques show why these studies (and the media’s misreporting on them) simply can’t be trusted. Read Regnerus’ response here.

The reality is a long line of research has concluded that the intact married family, with a mother and father, is the safest and best environment to raise children. Regnerus’ own study, based on a large random sample of young adults that looked at a wide range of 40 developmental outcomes, found that in a majority of the outcomes children raised by their married biological parents had better outcomes than children raised by homosexual parents. Texas Values is currently working on a Amicus Brief on this issue in the defense of Texas’ Marriage Laws that will be filed in the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals. The court is expected to hear oral arguments on this case later this year.
